DigiNode Tools v0.9.13: Old DigiAsset Node retired, DigiByte Core v8.22.0-rc4 and more

· Release Notes

The old DigiAsset Node software has been retired: it hadn’t worked properly for some time, and this release removes it from your DigiNode. DigiNode Tools can also install DigiByte Core v8.22.0-rc4, updates are more reliable, and newer Raspberry Pi models are recognised.

The old DigiAsset Node

The legacy DigiAsset Node software hasn’t been working properly for some time, so it has been retired, and DigiNode Setup removes it from your DigiNode automatically. I hope to add support for DigiAsset Core, a complete rewrite of the DigiAsset software, at some point in the future.

DigiByte Core v8.22.0-rc4 support

DigiNode Tools can now install DigiByte Core v8.22.0-rc4.

More reliable updates

DigiNode Tools must now be up to date before it installs any other updates, such as a new version of DigiByte Core. If it isn’t, DigiNode Setup updates DigiNode Tools first, and you then run the update again. This extra step is rarely needed, but it avoids problems when something changes a lot between versions. It’s the fix for the error some people saw when upgrading to DigiByte Core v8.22.0-rc4 with an older version of DigiNode Tools.

Other improvements and fixes

  • Newer Raspberry Pi models - DigiNode Tools now recognises newer Raspberry Pi 4, Compute Module 4, Pi 400 and Pi 5 models.
  • Cleaner blockchain uninstall - Removing the blockchain data now deletes everything except your wallet. Before, it kept the banlist, mempool, peers and other files.
  • New home on GitHub - DigiNode Tools has moved to the new DigiNode Tools organisation on GitHub, and every link has been updated.
  • Offline detection - DigiNode Dashboard is better at noticing when your DigiNode is offline.
  • Tidier start - DigiNode Dashboard no longer shows download progress while it checks for a DigiByte Core update as it starts.
  • Testnet peers in order - diginode --dgb2peers now sorts testnet peers alphabetically, like mainnet peers.

This post covers DigiNode Tools v0.9.10, v0.9.11, v0.9.12 and v0.9.13. Each release’s own notes are on GitHub.
