DigiNode Tools v0.3.12: Restore from USB, PC support, DigiAsset Node only and more
You can now restore your DigiByte wallet and DigiAsset settings from a USB backup, and DigiNode Tools works on PC hardware as well as the Raspberry Pi. The Status Monitor can watch a DigiByte node you set up yourself, you can run just a DigiAsset Node on a device that can’t manage a full node, and diginode.settings now upgrades itself with each release.

Restore from USB New
You can now restore your DigiByte wallet, your DigiAsset settings or both from a USB backup made with DigiNode Setup. If you change your mind, you can cancel inserting the USB stick by pressing a key.
PC support New
DigiNode Tools now works on x86_64 computers, so you can set up a DigiNode on PC hardware as well as on a Raspberry Pi.
Use the Status Monitor with your own DigiByte node New
A new menu option installs DigiNode Tools only, so you can use the Status Monitor with a DigiByte node you set up yourself. It also lets you run DigiNode Setup from your own copy, so you can look at what it does before you run it (always get it from the official GitHub repository). If the Status Monitor can’t find your DigiByte Core install folder, it asks where it is. And when DigiNode Tools finds a DigiByte node it didn’t set up, it offers to upgrade DigiNode Tools or uninstall it.
DigiAsset Node only New
Maybe you have a device that isn’t powerful enough to run a DigiByte node? The new --dganodeonly flag installs just a DigiAsset Node. It’s a great way to support the DigiByte blockchain if you can’t run a full node.
diginode.settings upgrades itself New
Whenever there’s a new release, DigiNode Setup now upgrades your diginode.settings file automatically. Until now, you would probably have had to delete it after a big upgrade. This makes it much easier to add new features to DigiNode Tools in the future.
Other improvements and fixes
- New System update reminder - DigiNode Setup reminds you to install system updates when there are some.
- New Running locally or remotely - DigiNode Setup can tell whether you’re running it on the device itself or over SSH.
- Improvement Kubo - Go-IPFS has been renamed Kubo, and DigiNode Setup now installs it itself instead of with the IPFS Updater utility. If it fails to install, installation now stops, and the error is shown properly. (Its download servers were unreliable: retrying usually works.)
- Improvement A clearer Status Monitor - It shows more while DigiByte Core is starting, and hides the temperature, device and tiny swap files when there’s nothing useful to show.
- Improvement Documentation - Equipment suggestions for building your own DigiNode, more screenshots in the README, and updated DigiFacts.
- Improvement Smoother setup - Dependencies are installed before DigiNode Setup begins.
- Fix Lots of fixes - The Status Monitor’s timers, memory, swap and disk usage, detecting the DigiAsset Node and PM2, starting IPFS during an update, running Update after a backup or restore, not restarting DigiByte Core before a wallet backup if it’s already running, the
--skiposcheckflag, and the DigiNode Tools update checker.
This post covers DigiNode Tools v0.2.1 to v0.3.12 (17 releases). Each release’s own notes are on GitHub.
